Who sits on your personal Board of Advisors?
Think about people in your life, mentors, accounts you follow, books your read, and who and what you listen to on podcasts.
Who whispers to your decision-making ear?
Whose words carry the most weight?
Is that aligned with whom you are trying to become?
Check what are the categories of life where you are open to receiving feedback. It can be broad like “work, family, fitness, etc.”. The more granulated it is, the more accurate you can assess, like “analytical thinking, home repairs, fashion, etc. Put each advisor on a leaderboard of the categories they are currently in. Assess, then hire, promote, demote, and fire accordingly.
The goal of this practice is to identify who should be in your BoA, but more importantly, what is the role of a specific Advisor and which category you are open to being advised on from them.
HOT TAKE AHEAD:
Although you want to surround yourself with people that inspire you, there is a popular belief that you should eliminate anyone who doesn’t directly benefit you. However, I believe we can learn from anyone. So "fire" in this context doesn't mean to remove people from your life, but to "fire" them from categories of advice that do not align with a *better you* and focus on listening in the boxes they do check.
